Resilience IS Leadership?
The Essense of Resilience
What is it about people that makes them resilient?
This may be the most perplexing thing to human-kind as there is....
Why do some people consistently land on their feet and other people spend their lives been knocked continuously about by every possible storm?
To answer this requires a significant amount of perspective in my view. But I'll try to provide some insights from my own life to shoulder some of the weight of explanation.
Clearly, some people are just flat born resilient. I don't think there is any question about that when you examine the data. You might even say people are born lucky if you like. I wouldn't necessarily disagree that chance is part of the equation.
Yet, I think there may be something more when we consider things like optimism, or hardiness, or persistence, a probable close relative.
You know you always here the phrase, "you can't control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude about what happens." I know this was from an optimist.
If there was one thing that made people more resilient, I would say it was optimism. I think there a lot of studies that would prove that as a fact over time.
However, to me, there are other ways, and I think I have come to the realization that in general, it's alignment that is most likely to determine resilience, closely followed by adaptability. In fact, it may be that adaptability-alignment may be the one-two punch so to speak that keeps people, business, relationships, systems and networks resilient.
Yet, how do you get those things in place...how does one align themselves, or adapt themselves to become resilient?
This is something I'll write about tomorrow at www.cprforthesoul.info
One of the things we've done is to create more than 100 articles on resilience that come directly from the book CPR for the SOUL that you can read each day to learn more in small bites about the model behind resilience. Besides getting more than 50 bonuses that are correlated to providing you with resources you'll need when you implement the CPR System, these articles are included at no charge.
The book can be purchased on April 14, 2006 and thereafter at www.cprforthesoul.com.
